EVENT HORIZON
by Kelly Bennette
Symphonic Band Series
GRADE 4 - Medium Advanced
The Event Horizon is the theoretical sphere around a black hole. It represents a boundary in which nothing, not even light, can escape the gravitational pull of the black hole as the escape velocity is greater than the speed of light. Kelly Bennette’s composition, Event Horizon, takes the performer and audience on a journey through space to explore this phenomenon.

Imagine being in a spaceship observing a black hole. As you try to get a closer look, you get dangerously close to the event horizon and you pull away. The crew is getting tense as the engines are being pushed to maximum capacity. Bead of sweat form on the brown of the fearless captain as the craft struggles to free itself.
Then release…
The crew sighs as the ship finally returns to a safe distance. Event Horizon should be a fun piece for any high school band or community band.
